I LOVE backpacking!!!

How was your weekend? My husband, dog and I spent it exploring West Clear Creek here in AZ. WOW, what a breathtaking place, full of beauty! Most of the hike is spent in the high desert and occasionally you make your way down to the creek to cross it. What fun and refreshing it was to change into our water shoes and cross it with 40 lbs on my back and 60 lbs on my husband's back! Next time we'll make the dog carry a backpack too ;) We love backpacking. Nothing better than getting a great workout in the beauty of nature. It connects us to be away from all distractions and technology. You are alone in your thoughts, nothing better. The key to reaching your goals is to be happily uncomfortable. If you aren't uncomfortable with your workouts, you will plateau and get in a rut. Message me at letsgetasixpack@gmail.com if you'd like to be uncomfortable and see BIG changes!!!

Eating clean tastes GREAT!!!

Hi everyone!!  Since completing the Ultimate Reset 3 weeks ago, I am having so much fun finding clean recipes to make that have a lot of flavor.  My new favorite website is www.skinnytaste.com.  The recipes she has on there, are just WOW, you have to check it out!!!

I love to spend time in the kitchen.  I have made a commitment to watch less TV, am no longer drinking alcohol on a regular basis and am pushing it hard with my workouts!

Sooo, with that being said, I find that spending time in the kitchen is a great way to stay busy!  People tend to have such a bad and unhealthy relationship with food, and I have turned that around.  I LOVE food.  I feel like I eat all day now!  I have had a tough time coming up with a weekly cheat meal because the food I'm making is that good!!  I have kept a lot of the Ultimate Reset meals in my menu.  I eat much less meat now and other proteins (greek yogurt, edamame, Shakeology).

I'm so happy to say that the Ultimate Reset is what changed my relationship with food!  Those 3 weeks were a total GAME changer for me!  The 10 lbs I lost has stayed off, my whole body is defined!  Ch-ch-check it out!!!

Ultimate Reset Day 20-almost to the finish line!!!

Hey everyone!!!  Yes, I am already almost done with the Ultimate Reset!  Wow, I cannot say enough good things about this.  I have reached my goal weight, am LOVING the amazing food, and am excited to begin the "rest" of my life!!  I will definitely incorporate a lot of the recipes into daily life and look at food a completely different way now.
The Ultimate Reset is a 21 day nutrition and supplement "Reset" that is aimed and getting years of toxins out and cleaning out all your organs (in a SUPER gentle way), something we ALL need.  The nutrition goes to vegan weeks 2 and 3.  Surprisingly, I love the recipes.  They all have AMAZING flavor!
I will be leaving a full review after I'm done, but I wanted to let you all know I am almost there and I have surprised myself!  It just goes to show you, that when you want something bad enough, you'll do whatever it takes to succeed!  The question is... How bad do YOU want it?

Join me for a life changing 21 days!

Hey everyone!  I'm back!  Life has a way of taking hold and I haven't posted in my blog as often as I want to.  I have had a rough time getting back into the swing of things following my knee surgery and now lifelong knee injury.  I've been coasting through my workouts, which is BAD!  My nutrition hasn't been as clean as I prefer it.  I have gained 7 lbs since my injury in October and that makes me MAD.  I'm going to get back to my goal.
After long and careful consideration, I have decided to do Beachbody's 21 day Ultimate Reset.  I'm READY, are you?  The Ultimate Reset is a 21 day Reset that occurs in 3 phases.  Let's break it down.

Phase 1:
Balance Body Chemistry
Constant consumption of preservatives and chemical-laden foods along with exposure to toxins and pollution impair normal body processes. During Phase 1, you'll balance your body chemistry with four of the six supplements in order to optimize its systems. This will also reduce cravings or dependencies on items such as sugar or caffeine.*

Phase 2:
Remove Toxins & Reset Digestion

In Phase 2, you'll be reversing the effects of poor habits, unhealthy foods, and environmental toxins. You'll modify your diet so that your digestive system won't have to struggle, and digestive problems you may have experienced before such as bloating and indigestion will be significantly reduced as your gasotrointestinal tract is cleansed.*

Phase 3:
Rejuvenate Your Health

When you reach Phase 3, you will experience a profound positive change in your mood and energy level. During the final week, you'll eat foods of high-nutritional value whose nutrients are easily absorbed and return healthy bacteria to your freshly scrubbed digestive tract with pre- and probiotics. This will set you on the path to long-term healthy living.*

There are 6 supplements you take along your journey:

1.  Alkalinize-For maximum health the blood should be slightly alkaline. Our alkalinizer helps to bring your body back into a healthy pH balance for improved immunity.
2.  Oxygenize-Supplementing oxygen helps the body eliminate waste from the tissues, which assists energy production and the transport of nutrients.
3.  Mineralize-Our rare natural salt contains highly beneficial trace minerals that aid the digestive tract, regulate water content, and support cellular function—ordinary salt does not.
4.  Revitalize-This combination of pre- and probiotics restores the balance of healthy bacteria in your digestive tract for a stronger immune system.
5.  Optimize-Systematic enzymes play a critical role in all bodily functions. Our unique blend of enzymes helps promote optimal immune and inflammatory responses in the body.
6.  Detox-Our detoxifying clay draws toxic compounds from the gastrointestinal tract, and our proprietary herb blend restores your system to optimal digestive health.

Why Reset?

Even though the body is extremely resilient, our bodies have been pushed to the limit by pollution, pesticides, preservatives, chemicals, and toxins contained in nearly every item that makes up our modern world. These harmful items disrupt the normal function of our organs and bodily systems, which, in turn, weakens our immunity, hinders metabolic activity, and creates imbalances that can lead to health problems.

With the Beachbody Ultimate Reset you get these benefits:

  • Stronger immune system
  • Increased energy and more endurance
  • Better digestion, metabolism and weight loss
  • A more positive mood and mental clarity

This will benefit everyone from every walk of life!  Did you know that on a baby's first day of life, they are exposed to over 200 toxins?  Happy Birthday, right?!  Let's do this together.  I could use some support as this will not be easy.  I'm determined to be the happiest, healthiest and physically fit ME possible.  Join me!  Email me at letsgetasixpack@gmail.com!

Rid the Wintertime Blues

Hundreds of thousands of people in the northern climates suffer every winter from lethargy, cravings for carbohydrates, weight gain and, sometimes, depression. These people suffer from a physical disorder known as Seasonal Affective Disorder, or SAD. When the quality of sunlight lessens in the winter, this triggers SAD symptoms in sufferers. SAD is not a foregone conclusion every winter, though. Through planned activities and lifestyle changes, SAD patients can live happier and healthier lives during the winter season.

Work it Off

Exercise helps the body to release certain hormones that increase happiness and satisfaction. SAD sufferers can work toward alleviating their symptoms by walking outside in the snow, sledding down hills or making snowmen with their children. As long as people dress for the weather by donning layers of breathable clothing,
exercising in below-zero temperatures is perfectly safe and healthy.

Turn up the Lights

The lack of sunlight seems to
trigger SAD in most people. Sufferers can improve their mood and lessen their symptoms by installing a full-spectrum light. The light needs to be where the person can receive the most benefit, such as over a desk that is used for hours at a time. Three or four hours of artificial sunlight each day seems to relieve the symptoms in most patients.

Keep in Touch

SAD sufferers are much like hibernating bears. They don't want anything to do with other people, and are often described as hermit-like in the winter. This is contrary to what a patient should do. Human interaction helps to increase motivation and positive thoughts in almost every person. SAD sufferers should make an effort to increase their interactions with other people. Visits in person are the best, but if that is not possible, regular
long distance calling and even chatting on social media websites can fill in as human touch of a sort. As long as a person is connecting with other people, they can receive the benefits from this contact.

Celebrate

Christmas isn't the only holiday during the winter season. Valentine's Day is in the middle of the worst part of winter, and is the perfect setting to getting rid of SAD symptoms. The mental rush of falling in love or the sweet confidence connected to a deep and lasting love are both effective cures for SAD blues. Indulging in shameless romance can be exactly the cure someone needs, as it will help release hormones throughout the body that create exactly the opposite feeling as SAD.

Why Exercise is Key for Cancer Patients

This article has been written by Liz Davies, a guest writer on my blog!

Daily activity is an important piece of a healthy existence for anyone, and it is just as essential for cancer survivors as it is for people who have never seen the disease. Cancer does not discriminate against anyone and neither do the benefits from exercise. Daily activity is powerfully linked with a decreased probability for reoccurrence of cancer paired with an increased life expectancy.

These are not the only benefits from exercise. Physical activity also decreases the uncomfortable symptoms of cancer treatments such as depression, nausea and fatigue. In general, physical activity enhances the immune system which is critical for patients who are fighting the disease and others who are trying to evade infection or anything else that could be health compromising.

Being overweight and leading an inactive lifestyle are connected to a variety of different diseases, including many cancers. It is imperative to lose the extra pounds or stop it from ever becoming an issue. This is overwhelmingly right for hormone-dependent cancers since daily activity provides regulation of the endocrine system. The stress hormone, cortisol, causes weight gain and be conquered by an average amount of physical activity.

Other ways that daily activity will provide benefits after cancer:

-          Allows deep and restful sleep throughout the night

-          Cures imbalances in musculature

-          Detoxifies the body (this is especially key after toxic chemotherapy)

-          Increases amount of oxygen throughout the body

-          Promotes relaxation

-          Overall, improves life quality

Depending on the type of cancer there are special considerations regarding recommendations and limitations when it comes to a recommended routine. A patient going through breast cancer treatment is going to have far different suggestions than someone receiving mesothelioma treatment.  It is very important for cancer patients to talk to doctors and certified cancer exercise trainers before beginning an exercise regimen.

Of course it is ideal for cancer patients to find exercises that are the most enjoyable for them. This way an exercise routine will be more strictly followed.  Yoga, pilates and other forms of stretching often invoke peace and harmony while offering the benefits of increased flexibility and range of motion. Other exercises like swimming and walking are often found extremely enjoyable and can be non-strenuous if need be.  No matter what type of exercise it is, the important part is that physical activity is being done to improve one’s life.
